Gmail and Other Google Services Now Support Multiple Sign-In in Same Browser

Having multiple accounts has been a pain for GMail users for a while. You have to log out of one account and log back in the next. Now, Google has introduced a way for you to link up to three accounts to your Google account, so you can sign in and switch between them at will – or even open a different tab for each account. Wow!
Gmail, Other Google Services Now Support Multiple Sign-In
According to the Gmail Blog, everyone should now be able to activate multiple accounts by heading to your Google Accounts page. Now, you can visit google.com/accounts and click the link next to “Multiple sign-in.” After you sign into your first account, you can sign in with up to two additional accounts from the new accounts menu in the upper right hand corner of Gmail, then easily toggle back and forth between them. You can even open multiple Gmail tabs — one for each of your accounts.

However, there are 3 caveats that Google quickly warns about, though:

1) Not all Google services support multiple account sign-in yet. For the services that don’t support it (like Blogger and Picasa Web Albums), you’ll be defaulted to the first account you signed in with during that browser session. So if you click a link from Gmail to Blogger, for example, you’ll be logged into Blogger with the first account you signed in with, even if you clicked the link to Blogger from your second Gmail account.

2) We’re still working on making Gmail and Calendar work offline with multiple sign-in. If you rely on offline access, you probably don’t want to enable this feature quite yet.

3) Multiple account sign-in only works on desktop browsers for now, so if you use Gmail on your phone’s browser you won’t see this option yet.
Since Google Apps customers can already sign in to their accounts at the same time as their personal Google Accounts, we won’t be adding this new feature to Google Apps until the new infrastructure is in place.

This is expected to boost company adoption of Google Apps because Gmail login had been a drawback. This has been a much-requested feature in Google products for some time. Most of us have at least two active Gmail addresses, especially those of us who use Gmail for both our work and personal lives. Previously, the only ways to access two accounts at once conveniently were to use a desktop client for e-mail, calendar events and feed reading (all of which partially defeat the purpose of using web apps in the first place) or to resort to browser extensions like the Google Account Multi-Login Greasemonkey script, which hacks this feature into Gmail.

Databases used in JAVA

Java is a software development tool used to make Web, desktop and mobile applications. Databases are the central component for dynamic content, so Java supports connecting to the common database solutions. Java is capable of connecting to Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server databases. The Java language connects using the JDBC driver available in the Java library.

MySQL

  • MySQL is a popular database solution. MySQL continues to be popular due to its affordable price (free for home users), and the availability of plug-ins and content tools. Many blogs such as Blogger and Wordpress use the MySQL database solution to host dynamic content. MySQL is also used for free Web forums such as PHP BB. The Java JDBC connects to MySQL and allows developers to run stored procedures, inline SQL and table creations within the Java application.

SQL Server

  • SQL Server is a database solution distributed by Microsoft. SQL Server has several versions still used in small to large businesses such as 2000, 2005 and 2008. SQL Server is used with the Microsoft .NET framework, which allows developers to code in several languages. Java also supports the Microsoft SQL Server environment using the JDBC driver. Using the JDBC Java drivers, developers can execute stored procedures, views, table creation and deletions and even maintain SQL Server security and user permissions.

Oracle

  • Oracle is a back-end database solution for large enterprises. Oracle is also commonly used in telephony environments, so it is commonly used to host PDA and mobile communications content. Java is used heavily in the mobile phone industry, so it works seamlessly with the Oracle database server. Connecting Java to an Oracle database uses the same JDBC driver connection, so Java developers can connect to several database platforms together. Since Oracle database environments sometimes use other solutions such as MySQL or SQL Server for Web content, the Java developer can implement a heterogeneous connection to Oracle and other databases together.

JAVA History

Java is a general purpose, object-oriented programming language developed by Sun Microsystems of USA in 1991. Originally called Oak by James Gosling, one of the inventors of the language, Java was designed for the development of software for consumer electronics devices like TVs, VCRs, toasters and such other electronics machines. The goal had a strong impact on the development team to make the language simple, portable and highly reliable. The java team which included Patrick Naughton discovered that the exiting languages like C and C++ had limitation in terms of both reliability and portability. However, they modeled their new language Java on C and C++ but remove number of features of C and C++ that were considered as source of problems and thus made Java a really simple, reliable, portable, and powerful language.

The most striking feature of the Java language is that it is a platform-neutral language. Java is the first programming language that is not tied to any particular hardware or operating system. Programs developed in Java can be executed anywhere on any system. We can call Java as a revolutionary technology because it has brought in a fundamental shift in how we develop and use programs. Nothing like this happened to the software industry before.

Windows 7: A playground for hackers ?

Microsoft says windows 7 is safer, better looking and faster than Vista. But some security loopholes that have existed right from the beta phase have still not been completely dealt with. The main problem lies with the revamped User Account Control System (UAC) which has been toned down since users found the Vista version too intrusive. Ever since Vista, the user runs with only limited rights. If he wants to make system related changes, a UAC warning message is displayed and admin rights must be proven. However, the annoying pop-ups used to appear even for very small updates.

The new UAC from Windows 7 was designed to let the user control how alarms are raised, but the default low setting allowed hackers to run a simple script that let them later run any progrm with admin rights. Attackers can turn off the UAC through DLL injection even in the release candidate. Thus, every program gets admin rightd with just a click of the mouse. Even worse: Internet Exploer's Protected Mode can be disabled without the user being aware.

iPhone becomes the most popular camera on Flickr

The iPhone was briefly the most popular camera on the world's largest photo-sharing site, Flickr. After slowly gaining in the site's statistics since it's launch, a massive surge of popularity in the past few months has propelled it past the previous top model, Canon's affordable,  amateur-friendly EOS400D digital SLR. The two are now practically tied for the top spot.

Even though the 2-megapixel iPhone's image quality can't be compared to that of the entry-level DSLR, its immense popularity, Internet connectivity and media sharing feature mean more people are yaking and uploading mobile photos.
